
Stable, democratic, peaceful. Costa Rica officially abolished its army in 1948. It is the only Latin American country listed in the 22 most steadily democratic countries since 1950.
Close to the US. Only a two and a half hour flight from Miami, and only five hours from New York. With so many major airlines flying to Costa Rica it’s easy to get here for you and friends and family.
Growing economy. Costa Rica’s economy was up by 3.6% in 2010. The total amount of foreign direct investment was second only to Panama in the Central American region in 2010. Last year was a record year for tourism, too, with more than two million tourists visiting the country.
Amazingly beautiful. With over 27% of its topography in parks and reserves, Costa Rica has an abundance of natural wonders...volcanic peaks, rain forests, tranquil lakes, thundering waterfalls and beaches voted as some of the most beautiful in the world.
Health care. Health care in Costa Rica is very affordable and of a high quality. In fact, the country is a popular choice for North American medical tourists looking to save on the costs of major procedures (dental treatments, joint replacements, eye surgery, etc.). Costa Rican residents pay a low monthly fee to join the national health care system (CCSS), and can use CCSS hospitals and clinics. Fees for private medical cover start from around $50 a month.
Superb quality of life. With lifestyles that encourage healthier choices, life expectancy is high, at 77.8 years on average. The country also regularly tops the Happiness Planet Index which is maintained by sociologists who study happiness in world cultures. With measures of health, life satisfaction among others, the Index indicates that the happiest people in the world live in Costa Rica.
Climate. The weather is warm year-round. Escape the freezing winters, ice and snow. Temperatures average in the 70s and 80s, with no tornadoes or hurricanes. With the exeption of about one month or so, outdoor activities can be enjoyed year round.
North American Population. Costa Rica is already home to an estimated 35,000-50,000 North Americans who own property in Costa Rica, or live here full or part time.
Affordability. Beyond affordable health care, property taxes are low, at around 0.25% of the recorded or municipal-registered value of the property annually. That’s around $249 per year for a property valued at $99,800.
